Motor Vehicle Accident Involving a Garbage Truck

The Central Islip FD was alerted to a motor vehicle accident at the intersections of Carlenton Avenue and Smith Street involving a garbage truck.

First arriving unit, FD district employee, advised CIFD dispatch of a negative pin but would required EMS to the scene for a patient needing medical attention.

Arriving Chiefs directed fire crews on scene to secure both vehicles while Central Islip Hauppauge EMS crews tended to the injured.

All units were released while Suffolk Police began their accident investigation.


 
   
   
Another Overturn gets CIFD activated

The Central Islip FD was dispatched to the intersections of Ferndale Avenue and Coconut for a reported overturned vehicle with a fire. Arriving FD units confirmed the overturned vehicle with all the occupants already out and no fire on the scene. EMS was required for two small children that had head wounds.

FD units secured the vehicles as Suffolk Police remained on scene to remove all involved vehicles.


 
   
   
Overturned Vehicle with Hurst Tool response

The Central Islip Fire Department was placed into service at 12:10 PM for a reported overturned vehicle at the intersection of  Evergreen Avenue and Joshuas Path.

First arriving Chief, Kevin McAteer, confirmed the overturned vehicle as a Suffolk Police Officer on scene transmitted a confirmed entrapped subject in a car.

Rescue 376 was directed into the scene and ordered to place their Hurst tool into service to free a female patient in the car that was struck. Rescue 3715 also made the assignment and their crews assisted in the operation.Central Islip Hauppauge Ambulance was on location to tend to the female, that was transported to a local hospital for treatment of her injuries.

All fire units were returned to service shortly after the extrication.


 
   
   
CIFD Answers Neighbors Call For Help

On March 17, 2011 at approximately 4pm, a ladder truck from Central Islip FD was requested to the scene of a working house fire in East Brentwood.  Central Islip personnel, under the command of Asst. Chief Ed Freudenberg, responded to assist East Brentwood FD in extinguishing the blaze and overhaul operations.

All units were released and back in service at around 6pm.


 
   
   
Mutual aid Request from Lakeland FD

At 03:39 AM the Central Islip Fire Department was activated to assist the Lakeland FD at a scene of a working fire. Units were directed to 808 Johnson Avenue for a F.A.S.T. team during the operation at a 1.5 story wood frame private dwelling fire.

Under the direction of 1st Assistant Chief, Ed Freudenberg, Rescue 376 crews set up operations in front of the dwelling. Also requested was Central Islip's ladder truck to assist in the supression efforts.

The fire had reportedly trapped a victim on the second floor, which was confirmed during the overhaul of the home. A female occupant was later found in the home.

All units were returned to service afetr a few hours of working at the scene.


 
   
   
Reported Heavy Rescue for Central Islip FD

The Central Islip FD was activated for a reported motor vehicle accident with a request for heavy rescue and the posibility of a fatality at the intersections of East Suffolk Avenue and Sycamore Avenue. First arriving unit, Assistant Chief Ed Freudenberg confirmed the MVA but no need for a heavy rescue operation. With Central Islip Hauppauge Volunteer Ambulance crews already on scene and treating patients, FD units secured vehicle and assisted EMS with packaging the patients. Assistant Chief Bob McGee, also on scene, requested the local power company to the location as a second vehicle involved in the accident struck and damaged a utility pole. All crews were returned to service once all vehicles were secured and LIPA was on scene.

 
   
   
Afternoon Overturn & HazMat creates traffic delays

Central Islip, NY November 10, 2010 at 2:40 P.M. The Central Islip Fire Department was dispatched to a reported motor vehicle accident involving a tanker truck at the intersections of Motor Parkway and Joshuas Path. 1st Assistant Chief, Edward Freudenberg was underway to the incident and was advised a home heating oil tanker had overturned onto its side. Once on location, Chief Freudenberg made a quick assesment of the scene and determined that the tanker was leaking its product onto the roadway at a fast pace. It was at this time a request was made for additional manpower and equipment, including a reponse from the Islip Town Hazardous Materials Unit. Operators of both vehicles sustained minor injuries and was being cared for as fire department units began the task of mitigating the environmental situation. With road work being performed in the area, Chief Freudenberg utilized his resources and comendered a 10 wheel dump truck and a front bucket loader to build a spill berm to contain the leaking oil. Islip Town HazMat units were on scene to slow the leak until the remaining product on the truck could be transfered to another tanker. The extended operation went into the early evening with the vehicle being secured and removed and the clean up of the street. All remaining FD units were returned to service after all personel and equipment were decontaminated by the Suffolk County FRES personel.

 
   
   
Car mows down fire hydrant

June 1, 2010 - The Central Islip Fire Department was dispatched to a reported single vehicle accident at the intersections of Carleton Ave and Smith St. Arriving units confirmed a single car accident where the operator suffered a medical incident which caused him to loose control of his car and strike a hydrant before coming to a stop before hitting a building. FD was requested to secure the vehicle while CIHVA EMS crews secured the single patient for  transport to an area hospital for treatment.


 
   
   
School Bus MVA with Fuel spill for CI

May 19, 2010 The Central Islip FD responded to Belt Dr east and Lowell Ave for a reported fuel spill. Once on location, responding Chiefs confirmed a collision between a car and a mini bus that left a large fluid spill on the roadway. Engine 371 with 2nd Lt. Bobby Kuehn secured both vehicles and attended to the fuel spill. Ems was on location to treat both drivers of the vehicles, which had minor injuries and did not require transport. All units returned to service shortly after.


 
   
   
Car into a safety truck brings out the Fire Department

The Central Islip Fire Department was alerted to a reported motor vehicle accident on the North Express Drive and Old Nichols Road in Islandia. After a short search for the scene, it was located in the Lakeland FD district in Ronkonkoma.

Chief Phil Falco, first on location reported a passenger vehicle had struck a safety truck protecting workers in a work zone on the road as they repaved the street. Central Islip Hauppauge Ambulance was on scene treating a female victim which sustained minor injuries.

Rescue 376 was directed to the scene to secure the vehicle, which had both airbags deployed and a small amount of fluids on the roadway.

All units were returned to service shortly after and EMS crews transported the driver to an area hospital for further treatment.


 
   
   
Another MVA to respond to in CI
Wednesday, May 12, 2010

May 12, 2010 at 12:37 PM, Central Islip Communications dispatched a motor vehicle accident with a fuel spill at East Suffolk Ave and Dovecote La. Arriving FD Chiefs found a 2 car mva with minor injuries to two patients. CIHVA was on scene to treat both victims and Rescue 376 made the assignment to secure both vehicle. Speedy dry was placed out for the leaking fluids and all fire units were returned to service.


 
   
   
CI goes to Brentwood for Mutual Aid
Tuesday, May 11, 2010

May 11, 2010 The brentwood Fire Department requested an Engine from Central Islip to assist at a structure fire at 882 Islip Avenue.

Central Islip Engine 371 and Chief Kevin Macateer responded to the location and were placed into operation at the scene.

Multiple departments were requested to assist with the fire which was knocked down quickly. All units were returned to service shortly after.


 
   
   
MVA Requires FD Response

May 11, 2010 at 10:57 A.M. The Central Islip FD was activated for a 2 car motor vehicle accident behind the local Walmart on Sycamore Lane. FD was required to secure both vehicles involved while CIHVA treated multiple patients, one of which had a serious head laceration.

Once the vehicles were secured and the EMS crews transported all patients, fire units were returned to service.


 
   
   
Electrical Hazard turns into car into utility pole

April 13, 2010 The Central Islip FD was alerted to an electrical hazard on Old Nichols Road and Dean Street in Islandia. 1st Assistant Chief, Ed Freudenberg was first on location to report secondary wire's across the roadway resulting from a single vehicle accident with a passanger car into a pole.

Rescue 376 was ordered to secure the vehicle and Engine 374 closed the roadway off from rush hour traffic. Central Islip Hauppauge Volunteer Ambulance was on location treating a male patient with chest pains. FD Chief ordered LIPA to the scene while all FD crews returned to service, Suffolk Police remained on scene with the road closed for the repair of the utility pole and removal of the vehicle.


 
   
   
Hurst Tool Requested To Free Victim

At the intersection of Lowell Avenue and East Walnut the Central Islip FD was operating at a motor vehicle accident that required the Hurst Rescue Tool being placed into service. A victim inside the vehicle was extricated by rescue crews and handed off to the CIHVA EMS crews to transport the victim to an area hospital with minor injuries.

All FD units were returned to service while Suffolk Police remained on scene to clear the vehicles from the roadway.
